Before you read this watch this video.
Dear, Prince Ea
I think the same way. This life we have, is surrounded by technology. I hate it. Some people will laugh at me, call me a hypocrite. They’ll say something across the lines of, “you don’t hate technology, you are on it all the time”. That’s right. I am on it. In fact, I’m on it as we speak. I just got out of Facebook to write this. So why does a person that hates something, still do it?
We live in a world, where everywhere you turn, you’ll find some sort of technology. Where technology has made it easier for communication and innovation.
You say that we do have a choice, that it’s that simple. Is it? Don’t we live in a community where most jobs consist of facing a screen for 40 hours a week? Imagine me a student at a private school, which gives us the privilege to use our laptops for studying and working. I’m sorry, let me rephrase that. Imagine me, as a student at a private school that obligates us to have a laptop because without, you wont be able to do the work. I’m not saying this in a bad way, in fact the use of technology at this school has allowed me to improve.
I haven’t been to college yet, but I’m sure it’s the same. I think its bizarre how adults think that were “attached” to these screen when were actually being pushed against them.
Lets think. Do these screen affect our communication. I believe there are only 2 ways to answer this. No and yes. Why?
No, these screens don’t affect our communication in fact they enhance it. People can reach others across the world due to this “Anti-Social Network”. People can be inspired, the same way I am, from watching your video to make this Blog post. Some are inspired to start a business from an idea they saw on pint-rest. You might say, “but what about personal contact. Because of technology people have lost the human contact there should be” Well doesn’t that depend on the use of technology. The problem isn’t the use of technology but the unproductive use of it. Depending on the way someone uses it, changes how much time they’re on it. It give them the opportunity to choose what they prefer do, live in the screen or in the real world.
Like I said before, 40 hours a week slammed against a screen. It’s not a simple as just pulling away. What we loose from pulling away. How many jobs can you name that have no connection to technology. Technology has made a way to our lives, which we possibly wont, be able to reverse unless everyone joins in. I have a lot of friends that use technology in a very useful way and actually, have found a passion for it. Just today someone told me they can’t think of any others interest they have beside straight up technology and filmmaking, Which I’m sure you used for this video (by the way, very well made).
Yes technology affects our communication, but I guess you already described that on your video.
As yourself must have realized, you can’t do anything without screens or technology to transmit a message anymore. I think too many people focus, on trying to get people off their screens, instead of getting people to understand, what the use of technology should be for. Why not show people how to effectively use these screen, to help our generation grow instead guiding them to a life of typing, LOL to a friend that’s next door.
We need to stop and realize that were trying to make a solution for the wrong problem. Technology has to be embraced. It has brought us many things and inspires many people. The problem we have to address and solve is the use of technology in an unproductive way.
Sincerely,
Nicolas Chavez
